As dusk approaches, the natural color and appearance of the Sonoran Desert landscape magically transitions into dramatic hues of purples, blues, oranges, pinks and deep greens. Far off distant details slowly melt and blend together till eventually it's an abstract impression of solid shapes.
With the choir of crickets singing out in perfect harmony and the coyotes howling for their nightly gather, it's time to make it down the ridge while there's still enough light to see a wondering rattler along the path.
This is my favorite place and time of day for capturing such a moment, in spite of the many annoying gnats that arrive during the Monsoon season. They fly into everything, my eyes, coffee and paint. Truly an en plein air painting experience.
